A little history
First founded by Bill and Alison Brogan in 1973 as Bayview Coral Bay, the Brogan family are proud to welcome you to our holiday village, filled with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Manta Ray magic in the heart of the Ningaloo Reef - Coral Bay ✨
My favourite time of year for Manta Rays on the Ningaloo is winter.
Despite year round Manta interactions being a great - with nature it is mostly a lottery. Winter tends to provide a higher rate of Manta Ray ‘mating chains’.
A mating chain is when the female is chased and courted tirelessly by any given number of males hoping to mate with her.
What an experience to witness first hand for myself and all out on tour with boatsningaloocoralbay.
The female in this mating chain is the Melanistic (black) ray at the centre of the image, she was easily 4 metres wide!
Her experience in this situation was evident, as she dodged and weaved in between the customers and I. Displaying incredible spatial awareness and trust in our lack of threat toward her.

Its a holiday destination. It’s made for tourism, not really many locals living here. It’s jam packed in the whale season but apparently quiet in summer.
We loved it here. It’s great for families and kids.
Every day, we just packed everything including the kids into the beach trolley and walked across the road to the beach. The water is so clear and shallow. You can snorkel all day and low tide in the evenings everyone is still out skim boarding, SUP, kids playing.
We also just enjoyed relaxing at the pool whilst Mila made new friends and became more confident in the water.

wow... what a long journey... due to a brakedown of a bus i had to stay one more night at the hostel, i mean yeah... there could be worse places to be stucked honestly than #coralbay🤣 but #integritycoachlines for me is not very reliable and there is nothing of goodwill for such a situation from them... pretty poor and maybe the reason why the westcoast is not yet so travelled and hast still not so many tourists because if the coaches are so unreliable, travelling with limited time gets really difficult... however Jacinta and Dania from the hostel turned the situation into something amazing in offering a FREE night for me 😍😘 thanks again to #ningaloocoralbaybackpackers ... you made my day 😍 and now a long jouney has startet that cost me my Broome and Darwin stay... so heading directly to #katherine more than 40 hours... and to mention it: the busdrivers were awesome and nice but i would not recommend #integritycoach too much if there is any alternative left ... but hey: always look on the bright side of life 😍

Everyone meet Irwin. The last time I met Irwin was back in May 2019 when I did the best experience ever, the whale shark swim in the #ningalooreef with whalesharkdive and after getting the amazing pictures from oceanaimee and a few of my own I sent them to a website called www.sharkbook.ai which do an amazing job at tracking these amazing animals.
Over the last few years I hadn`t heard a thing and did wonder where Irwin would be however, today I got an email saying he had been spotted again back in the Ningaloo Reef. It`s good to know he`s still travelling the oceans 4 years later!

Wow what an awesome day we had yesterday out on a snorkeling tour with the manta rays. We were lucky enough to see about 10 different rays, turtles, reef sharks and of course lots of colourful fish and spectacular coral. A must do, we highly recommend doing this.

Day eight: Coral Bay. Manta ray tour was amazing, love how graceful manta rays are in the water. Swam with a turtle and saw about 10 reef sharks at a cleaning station. Today is sadly moving day but we just couldn`t farewell Coral Bay without a trip on the glass bottom boat ⚓
The boys had a blast, Hamish was on the lookout for Nemo and Albie kept pointing out the various fish and coral he recognised and knew the names of. You don`t have to go far here to enjoy the coral, it is only 50m from the shore in places and abundant. Beautiful coral gardens extending as far as you can see in every direction plus brightly coloured tropical fish going about their fishy ways. It was great to show the kids what we had been enjoying on our snorkeling adventures the past few days.
The one-hour coral viewing tour took us to Lavender Patch an area of beautiful purple coral and also to Ayers Rock a huge brain coral about 3500 years old, 4m high and about 8-9m from one side to the other (pic 2). Ash thought it looked like a huge cheese wheel when she had snorkelled around it. The boat also stops for a little while to view and feed the fish before moving along. There are also longer tours available that include snorkeling at the various hotspots and the outer reef.

Just 40mins from Coral Bay Oyster Bridge is an absolute beauty!☀️🏖 Stop in at the coral bay dive shop and purchase a 2 dollar mud map to view the off-road trails. You’ll need a 4x4, air compressor and at least 2 max tracks. Drop them tryres down and you should make it there no worries 🤙

Yep, if you look closely enough you`ll see a sargassum frogfish 😊
I have been looking for it in every patch of seagrass I came across in my swimming life! So happy to finally be able to spot one drifting with seaweed in the Coral Bay lagoon, I had to blink my eyes couple of times and look again to fully believe I found it!
This odd fish is named after the sargassum sea grass beds it camouflages itself in. The colour can change rapidly to match its surroundings. It is a voracious hunter and will eat other sargassumfish. Sitting very still, the sargassumfish ‘fishes’ with its rod-like illium topped with a lure-like lump. It crawls around the sargassum with its specialized fins, and when threatened, can hop out of the water onto the sea weed mats for extended periods of time.
Always look amongst seaweed, there is a whole world made of great skilled creatures taking advantage of its floatation to save their energies and escape predators.

U-oh. We headed off early for our 6-hour drive only to discover we had a very flat tyre. Unfamiliar car. Middle of nowhere 🤯 Thanks to the locals who came to help, big shout out to Martin at ningaloocoralbay who was a legend & got us back behind the wheel in about half an hour. It would have taken us half a day. Coral Bay is beautiful btw 🤿 🏖☀️

Alex spent months sourcing, rebuilding and fitting an aircon into Talbot, and it did VERY well considering the heat and humidity at the time. He even made a little vent for Lachie`s area so he could nap in comfort 💤

Manta Ray experience at Coral Bay, what a perfect day out with Josh, Ash, Fabio and Scott. We saw sting rays, heaps of fish, manta rays, dolphins, turtles, dugongs and a big tiger shark! The crew aboard the Ningaloo were just amazing, they made our day just perfect! A big thanks to Josh for taking so much care to make sure we all had the best views, and to Ash for capturing these great photos.
